Michael Pettenuzzo, 65, beloved husband and father, was called to his eternal resting place on August 8, 2018. He entered this world on March 24, 1953 in Chicago, IL, born to Angelo and Beatrice Pettenuzzo.
Michael, better known as Mike, fell in love with New Mexico right from the start. He played football and baseball for the Lobos from 1971 to 1974. And in 1977, the Journal reported, Pettenuzzo went 27-for-28 at the plate during a single tournament for the Albuquerque Diablos while hitting 16 home runs. In 1983, he hit more than 80 home runs in a season. He was later inducted into the University of New Mexico Hall of Fame.
Athletics remained an integral part of Mike’s life. He spent decades coaching his daughters on the diamond and working in the sporting goods industry. He later coached high school softball. Mike was the type of person who made an impact both on and off the field, striving to make sure players became the best versions of themselves while playing a sport they loved.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lisa Sandoval; his mother, Beatrice Pettenuzzo; his brother, David; and his daughters, Nicole Wragge and Carleigh Salmon and their families.
