Michael Perez, 42, died Thursday, July 16, 2020, at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Sacramento, CA on July 12, 1978, son of the late Alfredo Perez. He is survived by Maria Perez (mother) and Alice Perez (stepmother). He is also survived by his spouse, Ginger Perez, and his son and daughter, Noah and Mia Perez. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Caleb Perez.
Michael served in the United States Marine Corps from 1996-2018. He started with the Light Armored Reconnaissance in Camp Lejeune participating in several Marine Expeditionary Units as well as in Kosovo. He then joined 1st Battalion 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton as an infantryman. He served the United States in war in Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 and 2, where he earned many distinctions including a Purple Heart. He then served as a recruiter, first at the 9th RS Recruiting District out of Kansas City, MO and then in the 8th RS Recruiting District out of Albuquerque, NM where he retired from the United States Marine Corp in December 2018.
Michael was also an actor who played small parts in movies: Lone Survivor, Transcendence, Independence Day: Resurgence, Force of Execution as well as several others with Steven Segal and some TV shows including Better Call Saul (episode 1) and Night Shift.
Michael gave back to the community by serving as a volunteer deputy for the Bernalillo Country Sherriff’s Department. He served his congregation, Sagebrush Church, and his children’s school district at Sandia Vista Elementary as a security officer.
Michael especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He loved to be physically fit, even running a marathon on his 15th anniversary with his wife. They traveled often with their children to many destinations around the country creating lasting memories.
Although he was a quiet, gentle giant, Michael’s wit and love of people drew many towards him. He is known for his bravery, compassion, and kindheartedness.
