On the serene morning of May 6th 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Michael J McLaughlin passed on from this life. We like to imagine he has joined his beloved wife, Miranda McLaughlin and loving dog, Charlie on the U.S.S. Enterprise where they continue to explore the vast wonders of the universe together. Michael was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 17, 1940 to Anthony J McLaughlin and Sarah McLaughlin. Michael was raised in Philly, with seven brothers and sisters, countless cousins, who proliferated the McLaughlin name, making him uncle to several nieces and nephews. Our love goes out to all of them.
After serving on an 'Ice Breaker' in the US Navy, Michael completed degrees at San Jose State and Wisconsin University in the science of Meteorology. Eventually committing to a career with the National Weather Service, and receiving recognition for his contributions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Mike and Miranda migrated to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1978, a place they had fallen in love with on one of their many road trips across the American West. There he raised his first and only son, Robert Joseph McLaughlin, a spunky ball of joy that kept them on their toes! Robert went on to marry Carmen Victoria Gonzales in 1989, and the couple welcomed into the world Michael's only and beloved granddaughter Jade Elijah Mclaughlin. Jade and Michael bonded deeply over their love of science fiction consuming the entirety of the Star Trek catalog repeatedly for decades. Michael is also survived by loving daughter-in-law, Julia Walker, who along with Robert provided him with the tender love and care he needed at the end of his life. Michael McLaughlin was a true lover of nature, animals, and the great outdoors. He was a humble man, with an appreciation for little treasures in life. He will be truly missed by all of his loved ones. His love of life will live on within each of us.
