It is with great sadness, that we announce the loss of Michael Leroy Grubbs who passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on March 5th, 2024 at the age of 71. Mike was born May 7th, 1952 in Danville, Illinois, to his loving parents Russell and Clell Grubbs who preceded him in death. Mike, his parents, and his 3 siblings moved from Illinois and settled in New Mexico. At the age of 21, Mike married the love of his life Erica Jablon on July 1st, 1973. Over their 50 years together Mike and Erica's family grew exponentially. Mike happily embraced the Jablon family into his life which included his in-laws Stanley and Lorraine Jablon who preceded him in death. He also welcomed Erica's siblings and their wives David (Barbara) Jablon and Lenny (Stacie) Jablon. Over the years his siblings would add to his growing family through marriage adding a brother-in-law and sister-in-law's, along with many nieces and nephews, which brought him so much joy. Mike is preceded in death by his oldest brother Jim (Sandy) Grubbs, and survived by his sister Mirinda (Rick) Gerber, and younger brother Malcolm Grubbs. Mike was ecstatic and over the moon with excitement when he and Erica welcomed their daughter Monique and son Brandon Grubbs into the world. Mike is survived by his two children who went on to add to his ever-growing family by adding multiple grandchildren; Christopher Grubbs (Renee Black), Haileigh Grubbs, Zarek Coston, and Aliyah Grubbs. With open arms, Mike warmly welcomed his great-grandson Dean Opland into his life and was elated to find out another great-grandchild was due in the summer of 2024.
Mike lived every day full of life and swore that "having fun was not an option". He was a jack of all trades and would drop everything to lend a helping hand to family, friends, or even a stranger who needed help. Mike had many hobbies that he enjoyed throughout his life, including baseball/softball, football, bowling, camping, and golf. He also loved to work with his hands building and fixing things. Though all of these things brought him joy Mike's most profound love was for his family. His large family and abundance of friends will miss his bigger-than-life laugh and smile that was infectious to all.
