Max Arthur Sklower

Max Arthur Sklower, 98, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 25, 2026.

Max was born on December 24, 1927, to Rose and Emanuel Sklower, and grew up in Malta, Montana. Max always spoke fondly of his childhood years, which he spent living with his parents and sister in a hotel that was operated by his parents. Max happily reported having access to a lot of hotel perks such as an abundance of treats, delicious food, and free rein of the place as a kid.

After graduating high school, Max proudly served in the US Navy as a Communications Officer. He went on to attend and graduate from Montana Technical University, in Butte, Montana.

Max eventually moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he became Vice President and General Manager of KOAT-TV from 1958 until 1987. During his time at KOAT, he helped grow the Station into one of the top rated ABC Affiliates in the country and was instrumental in launching the Crime Stoppers Program in the 1970's. Throughout his long broadcasting career, Max managed multiple stations, including ABC Affiliates in Corpus Christi and Beaumont, Texas.

After retiring from his television career, Max worked in the real estate industry for several years.

Max was an avid fisherman, skier, tennis player, piano player and lover of jazz music. He loved to live life to the fullest and above all, Max loved his family and organized many wonderful, fun-filled family vacations which brought friends and family together.

Max was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Sklower. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Sklower; daughter, Nancy Van Eys and husband, Johannes Van Eys; son, Keith Sklower; step-daughter, Pam Western and husband, Dan Western; step-son, Tom Wilcox and wife, Peggy Wilcox; grandchildren, Alex Van Eys, Chris Van Eys, Melissa Payne, Aaron Western, Eric Wilcox, and eight great-grandchildren.
