Mary Bennita Toohey
January 11, 1931 — February 20, 2017
Mary Bennita Toohey, 86, beloved sister, wife and mother, died peacefully at La Vida Llena Retirement Community on February 20, 2017. She entered this world on January 11, 1931, in Dallas, TX, born to Paul and Doralee Giffin.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy Toohey and Kevin Toohey; four grandchildren; and her sisters, Judith Darr of Seattle, WA and Paula McFarland of Costa Mesa, CA.
The majority of her life was spent in Albuquerque where she and Michael J. Toohey raised their family and in later years traveled extensively. She spent 50-plus years active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Preceptor Rho Chapter. Other activities she enjoyed through the years were the many friends she acquired through bridge club, and her participation in water aerobics classes.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested donations be made to Special Olympics, 6600 Palomas NE, Suite 207, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
