Mary Scott Miller, a remarkable individual with a deep-seated passion for organizing special events, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on October 24, 1940, in Fargo, North Dakota, Mary left an indelible mark on the lives of those she encountered throughout her journey.

Mary's educational pursuits were indicative of her drive and determination. While her husband pursued advanced degrees, Scottie worked full-time as a legal secretary and earned college credits at the University of North Dakota and the University of Northern Iowa. In 1982 to 1984, she attended the University of Illinois full-time and earned a Bachelors Degree in Advertising. During her time at university, Mary's commitment to excellence led her to join the National Honor Society in 1982, showcasing her unwavering dedication to academic achievement.

Following graduation, Mary embarked on a career at the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) in it's Office of Development. From 1984 to 2005, she served as a Special Events Organizer with skill and ingenuity. Through her efforts and meticulous attention to detail, Mary ensured that each event was executed flawlessly, leaving an enduring impact on all attendees.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Mary was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in Illinois and North Dakota. She wholeheartedly embraced their mission of community service and children's education and contributed to various philanthropic endeavors. Additionally, Mary's passion for gardening led her to become a Master Gardener and active member of the Herb Society of Illinois. Her knowledge and expertise in horticulture were assets to these organization's.


Mary's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her husband Michael; her son Gregory; grandchildren Monica and Kyle; sister Elizabeth; and brothers Michael and James. Each one of them held a special place in Mary's heart and will undoubtedly treasure the countless memories they shared together.

Mary Scott Miller will be remembered as a consummate professional, family member, and a compassionate friend to many. Her unwavering commitment to excellence, alongside her warm and caring nature will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
