In Loving Memory of Mary Marlin Hurt (1937 - 2024) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Marlin Hurt, aged 87, on October 22, 2024. Born on June 9, 1937, in Shinnston, West Virginia. Mary Marlin lived a life filled with grace, kindness, and unwavering devotion to God and those she cherished. She was a graduate of Denison University and the University of West Virginia in the state she loved.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Albert Lee Hurt, Jr. originally of Center, Colorado. Mary Marlin and Albert have been residents of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1969. Together, they built a family rooted in love, raising three sons: John (spouse: Leslea), Scott (spouse: Sheri), and Andrew. Her role as a mother was one she treasured, always offering her sons encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love.
Mary Marlin is also survived by brother Leslie Hawker, sister Virginia (Ginny) Shafer, nieces Paula Shafer Adams, Sarah Braun, Betsy LaPlante, and nephew Thomas Hawker.
Mary Marlin was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Rebekah Whitley, Christopher, Sarah Kerbo, Lesley Ann, Emily, and Andrew, as well as a great-grandmother to three beloved great-grandchildren: Serenity Kerbo, Melody Kerbo, and Lucas Hurt. Her family was her greatest joy, and she devoted herself fully to their happiness and well-being.
She was predeceased by her mother Virginia Hawker and father Marlin Hawker of Shinnston, West Virginia and her granddaughter, Rachel Ellen Hurt, whose memory she held dear to her heart throughout her later years.
Mary Marlin had a generous spirit and a quiet strength that touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She found beauty in the simple things, whether it was spending time in her garden, baking treats for family gatherings, or sharing stories from her rich and full life. Her laughter, wisdom, and love for her family will be her lasting legacy.
Mary Marlin was known for her craftsmanship - particularly in creating stuffed animals and bears for family and friends and special Memory Bears for a local hospice. She was the subject of a television news story by a local news station after being nominated by members of the Albuquerque community.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. While her physical presence is gone, her spirit will remain forever in our hearts, a reminder of the love and grace she so freely shared.
