Mary Denise (Wherry) Devinney, a radiant light in the lives of many, departed this world on July 30, 2025, in Albuquerque. Born on October 7, 1955, she left a legacy woven from her devotion to family, her passion for her work, and her infectious humor.
A distinguished Medical Referral Administrator for the USAF Department of Defense, Mary's professional prowess was only rivaled by her compassionate nature. Her academic achievements as a Licensed Professional Nurse equipped her with the skills and knowledge that she applied daily, ensuring that those in her care felt not only supported but genuinely understood. Throughout her career, she earned numerous accolades, a testament to her relentless commitment to her role and her unwavering support for the military community and their families.
Though her work brought her fulfillment, it was her role as a devoted mother and grandmother that brought her the utmost pride. Mary cherished her family above all, thriving in the joy of being a nurturing presence and a guiding force in their lives. She leaves behind her loving husband of 47 years, Bill Devinney, and her beloved son, Jarrod, step-daughter, Shana Devinney, and grandchildren-Jacob, Braydon, Cameron, and Bailey Devinney-who were the driving force behind her warm smile and joyous laughter.
Mary is also survived by her sisters Rachel Schlepp (Jim), Michele Hoover, Marlyce Coffey, Nicole Parks (Dewey), and Lisa Wherry (Lucas), along with her brothers Jerry (Carol), Joe, and Thomas (Patti) Wherry, and her step-mother, Lola Wherry. They shared countless memories and laughter, creating an unbreakable bond that will be felt for generations. Mary is proceeded in death by her son, Chad Devinney, and her parents, Dennis and Rachel Wherry, her brother-in-law Tom Hoover, and her daughter-in-law Shena Devinney.
A woman of unique character, Mary was one of a kind, possessing a remarkable ability to uplift those around her with her humor and kindness. Her daily rituals involved cleaning and organizing with a fervor that transformed her home into a sanctuary filled with warmth and inviting aromas from her culinary creations.
While her physical presence may have departed, the spirit of Mary Denise Devinney will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy continues to inspire, love, and unite her family, weaving their stories together in a tapestry of cherished memories. She will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered as a woman who truly embodied the essence of love and laughter in every facet of her life.
A service will be held on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 11:00 am at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel.
