Mary Casillas

Mary Casillas, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 13, 2024. She was born on September 19, 1931, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Santiago and Laura Colón. Mary lived a long and vibrant life filled with love for her Lord Jesus Christ, family, and an abiding passion for dressmaking, cooking, quilting and gardening.

She is survived by her three devoted children: Maryeli (Dee Dee), Donald (DC), and David Casillas, who each carry forward her legacy of faith and family unity. Mary is also survived by her cherished sister, Abigail Colón of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and her beloved brother, Radames (Ray) Colón of North Carolina. Mary had many nieces and nephews, one of whom is Ruthy Colón Torres of Orlando, Florida. Mary's memory lives on in her grandchildren, Robert, Holly, Carolina, Camille, Sara, JR, and Malik as well as her five great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Mary was married for 73 years to the love of her life, Eliseo Casillas, who passed away just two months prior. Their enduring love story is a testament to the deep bond they shared and the life they built together.

Her flower gardens were a reflection of her loving spirit and creativity. Each garden, meticulously tended and bursting with color, brought joy to her and envy to her neighbors. Her gardens were not just a hobby but a testament to her love of family, friends, beauty and nature.

Mary Casillas will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of beauty that will continue to bloom in the hearts of her loved ones.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the flowers she so dearly loved.

A memorial service will be held for Mary on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2 pm followed by a reception at French Funerals and Cremations - Westside located at 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
