Mary Barnes

August 11, 1928 — May 26, 2025

Mary Louise Slaughter Barnes was born on August 11, 1928 in Groesbeck, TX. She was the fourth of six daughters of Joseph Albert and Ruthie Lee Slaughter. Mary departed her earthly home on May 26, 2025 and was escorted to her eternal heavenly home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Services will be held at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on June 6, 2025 - 10:30 a.m.

Mary and Pete (Willie Earl) Barnes were joined in marriage on February 2, 1952 in Archer City, Texas. They were blessed with the arrival of two beautiful children in Dallas, Texas; Larry Don Barnes and Brenda Lou Barnes Coleman. In 1959, they moved to the family farm outside of Plano, where they raised their family. Mary and Pete were married for 47 years prior to Pete's passing in 1999. Not a day went by from the time that Larry and Pete went to heaven that Mary did not think of them and miss them sorely.

Mary and Pete were totally devoted to family, extended family and all their friends. Their door was always open and they were always there to celebrate family events and milestones. They were incredibly generous and gracious hosts. If you were at their home on Saturday morning, you could count on a friend or neighbor showing up unannounced for breakfast. Mary was an incredible cook and there was always room for one more at the table. She was well known for putting a roast in the oven early on Sunday morning so that it would cook while they were at church, totally trusting that the house would not catch fire! Her nieces and nephews and neighbors cannot count how many meals they ate in her tiny kitchen on the farm.

After retirement Mary and Pete traveled the United States in their travel trailer. They were President of their travel club and developed many close friends as they traversed the countryside. Eventually they settled permanently in Albuquerque to be near their daughter Brenda and her family. Mary loved life and truly enjoyed each day's activities. She never complained about anything. She was eternally optimistic. She was surrounded by family and many extended family who joined in celebrating her 90th and 95th birthdays. And she promised to be a round for her 100th. She loved a huge family celebration.

Mary passed away in Albuquerque, NM where she had lived for many, many years. Her daughter, Brenda, son-in-law, Dale, and her grandchildren, Vanessa and Phillip were blessed to have her in Albuquerque where Nana could enjoy her grandchildren during their formative years. She never wanted to miss any of their sporting events or band concerts.

In addition to her husband, Pete, and son, Larry, Mary was predeceased by her parents and her five sisters: Esther, Janie, Jo, Virginia and Martha. All six sisters were the best of friends. What a joyous day it was for Mary to be greeted in heaven by all her dear family. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dale Coleman, her granddaughter Vanessa Coleman and fiancé Chris Dewald, and grandson Phillip Coleman and wife, Ewa.

Well done thy good and faithful servant.
