Marlene Mulherin
Wier
Oct 10, 1936 — May 13, 2026
Marlene Mulherin Wier, born October 10, 1936, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, of natural causes. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline Hollenbeck Mulherin and Harold Mulherin; her stepfather, Calvin Hines; her stepmother, Erma Mulherin; her beloved husband, Jimmy Wier; her cherished daughter, Carolyn Maxwell; and her son-in-law, Danny Litwiller, a peentosi maximus. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lee Heflin of Idaho; her brother, Harold Mulherin (Linda) of Washington; her children, Pamela Litwiller of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jimmy Wier Jr. (Barbara) of Phoenix, Arizona; her son-in-law, Gary Maxwell of New Mexico; her grandchildren, Jason Wier, Jake Litwiller (Valerie), Zeke Litwiller (Lanich), Jamie Finley (Bryce), Joshua Wier, and Selena Litwiller; her great-grandchildren, Andan Camblin, Alex Camblin, Isabelle Wier, Dillon O'Brien, Jayse Wier, and Banks Wier; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Marlene was born in the church parsonage in Liberty, AZ, and raised in Phoenix and Glendale, Arizona. In 1954, she attended a square dance where she met a young man named Jimmy Wier. Jimmy immediately noticed the bright blue-eyed young woman whose warmth, beauty, and joyful spirit could light up a room. They married in 1955 and began a partnership that would last a lifetime.
Together, Jimmy and Marlene built a home, raised a family, and created a legacy that continues through the generations that follow them. After beginning their life together in Phoenix, Arizona, they moved to Austin, Texas for a few years before moving back to Arizona. Marlene was homesick and missed the sunshine. They later moved to El Paso, Texas, before settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they would spend more than 45 years. Their marriage was marked by devotion, friendship, faith, and an unwavering commitment to one another.
A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Marlene's faith shaped every aspect of her life. Marlene loved praising the Lord in the choir and leading the children's choir. She loved teaching Sunday School and sharing God's Word with children. Her passion for teaching led her to pursue a degree in education, graduating from Grand Canyon College in 1970. She was an active member of the Gamma chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority for 45 years. She went on to spend many years teaching elementary school, where she invested in countless young lives. Whether in the classroom, at church, or around her own kitchen table, Marlene was always teaching, encouraging, and helping others grow.
Marlene loved to travel and see the beauty of God's creation. Alongside Jimmy, she traveled throughout the United States and around the globe, visiting Australia, New Zealand, Ukraine, and many other places. Some journeys were for pleasure, while others supported gospel and mission work. Wherever she went, she carried the same servant's heart, curiosity, and kindness that defined her life. She also loved sewing and creating things with her hands. Like so much else in her life, her sewing reflected her patience, diligence, and care for others.
Marlene excelled in every role she was given. She was a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her parents through their later years. She was a treasured sister who remained close to her family throughout her life. She was a loving mother whose support, wisdom, and prayers never ceased. She was also a proud and devoted grandmother. Marlene took a genuine interest in each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She knew their strengths, their struggles, and what was happening in their lives. One of the traditions her family will always treasure was the birthday phone call she and Jimmy faithfully made every year. No matter where life had taken their children or grandchildren, Marlene and Jimmy would call on their birthdays and sing to them. It was a simple act, but it perfectly reflected who she was: faithful, intentional, and deeply invested in the people she loved. Marlene was a loyal friend who maintained relationships across decades. She had a remarkable ability to stay connected with people and make them feel remembered and valued. People knew they could depend on her, and many did. Above all, Marlene was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She lived a life marked by consistency, generosity, humility, and love. She showed up for her family, her friends, her church, and her community year after year. She could be counted on because she faithfully counted others as important.
It is no coincidence that parts of her story sound much like Jimmy's. They were truly one flesh. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love. Together they created a legacy that continues to bless generations. For many years, family members could count on hearing Marlene's voice on their birthdays as she and Jimmy faithfully called to sing and celebrate another year of life. Those calls have now fallen silent, but the love behind them remains. Her family will carry those memories with them always. While we deeply miss her presence and the light she brought into our lives, we take comfort in the hope she firmly believed. Through faith in Jesus Christ, death is not the end. We look forward to the day when we will see her again and hear her voice once more.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21
