Maria Lourdes Lucero was born May 21, 1951 in Loving, NM, and passed on June 8, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. Preceding her death were her father, Manuel Sosa Madrid; mother Gloria Bustamante Madrid; sister, Amelia Medrano; brother, JoeRay Madrid; and son Richard Lucero.
Her survivors are her brothers, Reinaldo and Lydia Madrid, and Daniel Madrid; spouse, Joe Lucero; son, Tony Joe Lucero; daughter, Michelle Lucero and Jon Nelson; daughter, Jocelyn and Josh Wiley; grandchildren, Jacob Lucero, Vanessa Nelson, Joshua Lucero, Jarett Lucero, Jon Taylor Nelson, Sean Tyler Nelson, Jameson Wiley and Declan Wiley; and one great grandchild, Alijah Johns.
Maria made a huge positive impact in daughters and in her community. Maria was a retired Dexter Elementary school teacher. There are numerous students who will never forget the lessons she taught. There are numerous friends who will never forget special times and laughter. There are numerous community and church members who will never forget her endless generosity and sincere concern for others. Her daughters will never forget her unconditional love, support, encouragement, and dedication ensuring ultimate success and independence. ALL will remember how she continuously prioritized everyone else's needs before her own.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 805 S. Main St., Roswell, NM 88203. Cremation will follow services and interment at South Park Cemetery will take place at a later date.
