Maria Hernandez

Maria Nico Hernandez passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones on December 1, 2023. Nico was the proud daughter of Jose "Che" Aurelio Hernandez, a Pancho Villa revolutionary, and Maria Filiberta "Beta" Cordero, a 'curandera'.

Mama Nico was a devoted mother of seven children: Maria de Jesus, Andrea A, Martha M, Luis I, Ma Teresa, Manuel A, and Luis C. She had a deep affection for her 22 grandchildren. Despite being a single mother, Nico worked hard to provide for her children and parents. She took up various challenging jobs such as field worker, housekeeper, babysitter, railroad worker laying the heavy railroad ties, florist, canning company worker, and a laborer in a turkey plant.

Nico enjoyed writing poems about life and current events in her free time. She will be remembered for her hard work, dedication, and love for her family.
