Margaret Jean "Marjean" (Hanna) Molzen

Margaret Jean Hanna Molzen (Marjean), age 91, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Marjean was born to George and Marian Hanna on May 18, 1927 in Newton, KS. She married Dayton Molzen on August 13, 1949. She and Dayton had known each other since third grace but didn’t start dating until after high school. She graduated from the University of Kansas and moved to Albuquerque when Dayton was stationed at Kirtland AFB. She obtained her Master’s degree from UNM.

Marjean always had a love of music and a love of horses. She taught chorus at Garfield Jr. High School and was a librarian at Valley High School for many years. She loved helping people and was active in many organizations including the Assistance League of Albuquerque, PEO, Delta Gamma, Mu Phi Epsilon, the Rio Grande Nature Center and the Enchanted Lens Camera Club. She was also a member of the High Dessert Methodist Church in Rio Rancho.

Marjean is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dayton Molzen; her son George Molzen and his wife, Judy Hardage; daughter, Lucena Pape and her husband, West; three grandchildren, John Pape, Jennifer Terry and Jessica Molzen; and seven great-grandchildren, Elisa, Dayton, Audrey, Kira, Weston, Evelyn and Isabelle.

After raising their family, Marjean and Dayton raised horses in Corrales. They shared a love of photography and traveled extensively. Marjean was also an avid birder and birds were often the subject of her photos. Marjean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed deeply by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
