Margaret Jane Johnson

March 2, 1938 — July 21, 2023

Margaret Jane Johnson passed away Friday, July 21, 2023, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born March 2, 1938, in Crawfordsville, IN to William and Julia Grider. She graduated with honors from Crawfordsville High School in 1956. She loved spending summers in Colorado and eventually attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she graduated with a degree in Education. She wed John Johnson, also from Crawfordsville, in June 1960. They soon moved to Palo Alto, California where she helped put him through medical school while teaching elementary education in Sunnyvale, CA. They then lived in Baltimore, MD, Silver Spring, MD and Palo Alto, CA again before settling down in Albuquerque in 1979. Jane and John were happily married for over 63 years.

She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother and friend. She maintained close contact with a number of her high school and college friends. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Her love of UNM basketball, Colorado and New Mexico mountains, gardening and her family were her passions. She had a sly sense of humor and was a gracious hostess for many UNM Department of Pediatrics functions.

She is survived by her husband, John; son, Todd Johnson and wife, Shelly; son, Tim Johnson; and daughter, Kelly Padilla and husband, Angelo. Also by 5 grandchildren: Neal, Miranda and Reese Johnson and Diego and Marissa Padilla; and most recently, by great-grandson, Luca Johnson. A small private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
