Margaret C. Hawk passed away April 3, 2026 at the age of 97. Margaret was born in Houston, Texas to Charles Cummins Lucas Jr. and Louise Linebaugh Lucas.
She moved to Albuquerque in the 1970s to pursue a career in Human Resources Management at Sandia National Laboratories, a position she held until she retired. It was there she met her beloved husband, former State congressman Robert M. Hawk. They married in 1983, and together they acted as powerful advocates for mental health, Indigenous people, and programs for children. Margaret spent over thirty years as a volunteer for the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, serving as pet therapy coordinator, adoption counselor, and "book lady" at the thrift store. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, including golf, bowling, reading, genealogy, playing bridge, and following the UNM women's basketball team.
Margaret is survived by her niece Carrie Bryan Atkins and husband John Atkins of Corrales, Nephew-in-law Rev. Jim Hawk and wife Jean of Albuquerque, great-niece Stacey Hawk of Albuquerque, and dear friends Ginny Clark, Peggy Burrell, and Tom Bauhan.
A private memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Margaret's memory to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico or Roadrunner Food Bank.
