Margaret Smith Greene, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated healthcare professional, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on June 26, 1975, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Margaret lived a life rich with love, creativity, and a passion for helping others. Residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she was the lead pediatric nurse at Optum, where she nurtured countless young lives with compassion and skill.
Margaret loved her family deeply. She is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Alonzo Greene, and her three children, sons: Nicholas George (Jordan), Taj Greene (Isabelle), and daughter, Chelsea Boykin. She found great joy in her role as MeMe to her grandchildren, Laelani Greene, Shaleey Montanino, and Rosalie Boykin. She also leaves behind her father, Dennis Smith; her step-mother, Deborah Smith, and siblings, Tanya Maples, Jesse and Casey Landry, and Emma and Sherry Crysel, and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was a fantastic home chef who showed her love by cooking cherished family recipes. Margaret also had an artistic flair that brought color to her life and those around her.
Those who knew Margaret had the pleasure of receiving her valuable unsolicited advice. She had an undeniable way of saying what needed to be said whether they wanted to hear it or not! Margaret's life legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone she knew. She will be remembered for her grit, humor, and sage wisdom - but mostly for the unconditional love she poured into every aspect of her life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Day, and grandparents, Mary Ann and William Day, and Alice and Beryl Smith.
