Margaret Eileen (Long) Brunkenhoefer

August 26, 1943 — December 5, 2020

Margaret Eileen (Long) Brunkenhoefer , 77, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Albuquerque, New Mexico due to complications from recently diagnosed Leukemia. A virtual service will be held at a future date still TBD. Margaret was born in Beeville, Texas, Thursday, August 26, 1943 and moved to Alice, Texas as a young girl. She graduated from Alice High School where she was a cheerleader, a percussionist in the band and for the Corpus Christi Symphony, as well as a skillful debater. She graduated with honors from Texas A&I, after which she moved to Corpus Christi where she would reside for the next 55 years. She would go on to become an accomplished artist, loving homemaker, doting mother, and caring wife. This amazing woman was a mother of two, and the stepmother to two families with five children each but always a mother to them all. She brought out the best in everyone, encouraged people to be themselves, and her kindness made everyone she encountered feel special. She was always willing and eager to help anyone who needed her. Margaret had a disarming and sincere kindness that could put anyone at ease. She was a peacemaker, a good listener, and the one to go to for encouragement and sound advice. Everything she did was done with elegance and grace.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lou (Martin) Witcher, her father Ewing Lester Witcher and brother Lester Leroy Witcher and his wife Betsye. She is survived by her husband, best friend and soulmate of 31 years, Robert Edward Brunkenhoefer (78); sons, Philip (Shelicia) Schultz, and Zachary (Debbie) Schultz; stepchildren, from her marriage to Dr. Joseph Schultz, Dr. Michael (Linda) Schultz, Mardi (Carl deceased) Mayerhoff, Marcia Green, Marylin “Mimi” (John) Pritchett and Mathew Schultz; stepchildren from her marriage to Robert, Blake (Tracey) Brunkenhoefer, Cathy (Don) Barker, Craig (Anna) Brunkenhoefer, Donna (Trevor) Barrett and Bradford (Elena) Brunkenhoefer; along with her 13 grandchildren, Dresden, Sydney, Darrow, Cabot, Emerson, Fletcher, Dalton, Riley, Shelby, Naomi, David, Ellis and Silas. Together, she and Robert believed in the saying “Enjoy life. This is not a dress rehearsal”. Margaret lived a full life and was blessed to have many friends and family who loved her throughout her lifetime. But those us that knew and loved her were truly the most blessed to have her in our lives.
