Marcelina Walsh

Marcelina (Mary) Walsh, age 91, mother of eight children, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Paguate NM and is a member of the Laguna Indian tribe. She attended school in Richmond California and at the Old Albuquerque Indian School, where she enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. She met her husband, James (Jim) of 65 years, in Albuquerque and they would later raise their family in Paguate and the Albuquerque area. Throughout her lifetime Mary showed unconditional love and support to her family, including assisting her husband with the startup/beginning phrases of his insurance and bed & breakfast businesses.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Juana and Joe Alonzo; father, Pablo Romero; sister, Susie Malott; aunt, Mary Delgado; uncle, Frank Ortiz; brother-in-law, Edward Walsh; and husband, James (Jim) Walsh; sons, John and Bernard; grandsons, Nicholas and Patrick; son-in-law, Martin Gallegos; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine (Richard) Labedz; nephew, Billy Malott; brother-in-law, Harold Lockwood; and nieces, Mary Ann Kolb and Joyce Delgado.

Mary is survived by her children, Patricia Sanchez, Michael, Margaret, Audrey, Patrick, Linda (Andrew); and grandchildren, Danielle, Linda Ann, and James (Amy) Walsh, Jason (Melissa), and Michael (Jessica) Sanchez, Michele Walsh, and Vanessa (Pete) Jacquez, Marla Gallegos, Uraina (Brian) Russell, Shawntel Gallegos, Avery, John, and Callie Walsh; and 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Lockwood, god-daughter, Claudia (Lawrence) Encino; and nieces, Charlotte (James) Maria, Zandra (Alvin) Tenorio, Raynita (Brian) Van Winkle, and nephews, Robert Malott and Darian Lockwood.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE, in Rio Rancho.

A Second Rosary will be celebrated Monday, August 28, 2023, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by mass at 10:00 a.m., respectively at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paguate, NM with burial and reception to follow.
The procession will depart from FRENCH - Westside at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
