Lupita Gurule-Salas passed on September 4, 2025 just short of her 100th birthday. She was born on September 9, 1925 in Taos, New Mexico. She was a beloved wife and stepmother. Beloved sister and aunt. She was born to Rogelio and Elosia Romero. She is survived by her youngest brother Ben and her stepchildren Maria, Thomas, and John. She is preceded in death by her sister Percilla, her 2 brothers Fernando and Rudy, and by her first husband, Joseph Gurule, and second husband, Alfonso Salas.
She was raised on a ranch in Taos County. She had fond memories of her time riding her horse and mule through the country side. She remembers the hard work that was required of her father to maintain the ranch. It taught her to embrace hard work.
She worked for the Bernalillo County Clerks office for over 25 years. She received Certificate of Appreciation from the County Clerk for her dedication to her work. She retired as the Supervisor of Recording and Filing. In addition, she also ran for Bernalillo County Clerk.
She participated in the American Legion Auxiliary program at Post 13 in Albuquerque. She served in several roles over the years and received multiple certificates of appreciation.
Some of Lupita's favorite hobbies included dressing up and watching the mariachis. She also greatly enjoyed attending church and reading the Bible.
Lupita was able to accomplish many amazing things throughout her life. She was a sweet and passionate person who will be missed dearly.
A rosary will be held Friday, September 26 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4020 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque), followed by a mass at 10:00 AM. Proceeding the mass, her interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery (501 North Guadalupe St in Santa Fe, NM) at 1:30 PM.
