Lucy Lucia Gallegos

I am home in heaven, dear one, oh, so happy and so bright! 

The family of Lucy L. Gallegos, age 90, of Albuquerque, NM is saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Beloved Mother, best friend mentor and confidant. Lucy was close to Jesus, through happy times and life’s challenges. She taught family about God and service. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children; Manuel Gallegos, Bessie Gallegos-Jaramillo (Martin), Jerome Gallegos, Agnes Gallegos-Bintz (Tim), Joanna Knox (Benjamin). 

In addition to her children, Lucy is survived by 22 grandchildren; Julie Ann Velasquez, Tamara Gallegos, Marlene Gonzales, Manuelito Gallegos. Daniel Gallegos, Jessica Gallegos, Dominique Gallegos, Jeremy Torrez, Mary Elizabeth Torrez, Mark Torrez, David Gallegos, Thomas Gallegos, Matthew Gallegos, Christopher Gallegos, Eloy Jerome Gallegos Mora, Nicole Espinosa, Angelo Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez, Daniel Jesus Benjamin Knox, and Ariel Blaney, 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, 4 siblings, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Isabelita Lopez; father, Ezequiel Lopez, son, Fermin Gallegos; grandson, Michael Gallegos; and seven siblings, Carmen Baca, Emilio Lopez, Margarito Lopez, Tony Lopez, Mabel Wheeler, Epolito Lopez and Ernest Lopez. Lucy knew that she would be reunited with her loved ones in heaven one day.

Lucy was a native New Mexican born in Abo, NM and lived in Albuquerque, NM most of her life. Among some of her talents were: Family Doula, Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Seamstress, Bakery Manager and Cake Decorator, Home Health Care Aide, Hospice Home Healthcare Aide and Care Taker for her grandmother in-law, mother, and so many more.  She was also the Master Bingo-netta of the family!

Lucy will most be remembered by her family and friends for her wise counsel and loving feedback. Her best advise was "To be strong enough to pray, forgive freely and to love one another.” She will be missed. May she rest in peace.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 5, 2024; 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH-University, 1111 University Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM. 87102. 

Rosary will be recited Tuesday, February 6, 2024; 8:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco Drive SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted at Joy Junction or your choice to feed the poor and hungry.
