Loring Emery

Loring Emery, age 91, passed away on November 30, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Laurel Emery; son, Frederick W Emery; and daughter, Karen A. wife of Michael Tate; six grandchildren, Brenda Emery Roby, John Emery, Madeline Tate, Annmarie Tate, Megan Emery and Alexander Emery; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Eric A. Emery.

Loring was born to Loring Emery Sr. and Alberta, (Tobias) Emery in Reading, PA. he grew up in Wyomissing, PA graduating from Wyomissing High School '49 and Albright college, Rdg, with a degree (BS) in physics, then served in the US Army first guided missile brigade in white Sands, New Mexico, and Germany.

A senior engineer at AT&T from 1955 to 1988. He had earned five patents. Then he started his second career as a writer, author, and publisher. He'd written five novels, some novellas, a poetry book, and many short stories, with more than 300 short stories, articles, and poems published. His children's book "Polly's Shadow" was published in India in 1998. He was co-editor with Penny Town and Gloria John of UPDARE?, a bimonthly magazine for and about folks with physical or psychological handicaps. When not writing, he taught basic computer skills to handicapped users and had a column called Loring's Corner, in Caliope, the official publication of writers special interest group of American Mensa, LTD. Since July 2019 he was Editor Emeritus.

Loring had also involved in many civic and church activities in PA, and since 2001, in ABQ, NM. This included church council of St, Michaels and Friedens and Messiah, teaching Adult Sunday School, PTA Scout Masters, Crimewatch, Lions club, and Republican Committee of Berks Co.

Loring loved his wife and family, his country and his God. There will be a private memorial service for family at a later date.
