Lois Arlene Shipe, an incredible Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend to many passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Lois was born in Dodge City, KS on October 12, 1941.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Paul C Shipe. She is survived by her daughter, Codi Hanson and son-in-law Christopher Hanson, her grandson, Austin Goode, and Austin's wife Cassie and their two boys, Dane and Bo, and her Granddaughter Lexie Goode, and Lexie's son, Maverick.
Lois was first and foremost a child of Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord with all her heart and her daily goal was to serve Him in any way He wanted her to. She kept a had written note in/by her desk that read "prayer is not a list of requests; rather it is reporting for duty". She loved her church family and singing in the choir. She especially enjoyed the Christmas and Easter seasons when there were multiple performances. This time energized her and filled her with great joy.
Lois went on several mission trips to Panama and loved seeing others come to know Christ. She especially enjoyed working with the children. On one of her trips, she met a little boy by the name of Felipe. He had accepted Christ into his heart and the two of them just connected. She went on to support him financially over the years so that he could grow in Christ and get an education. She was always excited to receive a letter from Felipe to hear about his growth and life events.
After leaving Dodge City, KS, Lois lived in Denver briefly and then in 1968, the family move to Albuquerque, where she resided until her passing. Upon arriving in Albuquerque, she started working at University Volkswagen and Mazda. After 48 years of service there she finally decided to retire. This was a very hard decision for her and at times she regretted it. The dealership was a treasured family for her, and she missed the daily camaraderie and her dear friends.
Lois was instrumental in helping Codi raise Austin and Lexie. She was consistently there to support them in any way. One might go as far to say that she was a co-parent to them. Heavens knows we would never have made it without her. There are many great memories from simple babysitting days, school functions, basketball games, adventures and incredible vacations. She was always open to whatever they wanted to do, which on one occasion meant taking Austin to a WWE wrestling event.
Lois had a fierce love for her Country. She was one incredibly proud American. She loved the stars and stripes and the freedom they represent. She would tear up upon hearing our National Anthem. Anytime she saw a service man/woman she would stop to thank them for their service. She truly understood that the freedom we have as Americans is unique and that others have given the ultimate sacrifice of their life for our freedoms.
Lois volunteered at Genesis Healthcare and assisted residents with Bible study on a weekly basis. She also worked with a group of ladies known by the name of Bling. With Bling she worked with other ladies to collect gently used jewelry, purses, hats etc. They would then have an annual sale and donate the proceeds to local non-profits. She thrived on being active in her community so that she could build relationships with others no matter where they started.
As most people know, Lois loved clothes, jewelry and fashion in general. She was always dressed immaculately and beautiful. She also enjoyed surprising all of us with a new color of hair every now and then. Most importantly, Lois was beautiful on the inside. She knew that the best accessories were a smile on her face and joy in her heart. She knew no stranger, loved giving compliments and she met people where they were at. She role modeled that for all of us daily. We have all been so incredibly blessed to have her in our lives and we will miss her more than words can express.
