It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Chavez (Gurule) on Monday, October 19, 2026. She died peacefully with her loving family by her bedside. Linda had a kind heart and loving spirit to compliment her wonderful smile that lit up any room she entered.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Victor (Vic) Chavez, her two wonderful children, Victor Angelo (Patricia) and Kathleen and her amazing grandson, August Adolfo Chavez; her sister Dellarose Torres, her brother Adolph Gurule (Michelle), her brother Anthony Gurule (Jean) of Longmont, CO and her sister-in-law Julia Chavez; many cousins and nephews and nieces.
Linda was funny, always happy and smiling, stubborn, full of life, feisty, and full of love and caring. She will be remembered for her fierce friendship, her devotion to family and friends, the beautiful memories she made, the happiness she brought, and the love she shared. It was of the utmost importance that anyone who visited her left being fed and with a smile on their face.
Linda had a rich and happy life. She loved traveling and she and her husband enjoyed sharing adventures for all their lives together. She was a Blue Star mother who was proud of her husband's and son's military service. She attended college later in life with her son. She received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood education and a Master's degree in Elementary Education from UNM at the age of 49. She had an amazing career doing what she loved. She taught at many different schools in Albuquerque and ended her career at Zia Elementary where she impacted the lives of those she taught because of her love for them and for teaching.
A memorial service and celebration of Linda's life will be held at FRENCH- Lomas on Thursday, November 12, 2026 at 10:00a.m. A reception to follow.
She will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have been touched by her remarkable life. Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
