WARSHAWSKY, Lillian

Lillian Warshawsky, age 92 1/2, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 11, 2017.  She was born March 24, 1925, and grew up in New York City (NYC), where she met her beloved husband, Nathan Warshawsky.   The two of them started and managed many small businesses together from bars, to clothing stores, to restaurants.  Lillian worked for many years as a buyer for Gimble’s in NYC and she loved to tell stories of her work there.  Lillian and Nathan moved to Albuquerque in the ‘70’s and spent 30+ wonderful years there.  When Nathan passed away, Lillian moved to Austin, TX to be near her son, Marc and his family.

Lillian, always the ‘rock’ of the family and a champion mahjongg player, enjoyed actively participating in her synagogue, Temple Albert, where she ran the gift shop for many years.  Upon moving to Austin, she quickly joined a new mahjongg group and enjoyed many second sixty events at Congregation Beth Israel.

Lillian is survived by three sons, Arnold (Gale), Marc (Rebecca) and Eugene; and her grandchildren, Barbara Hammond and JD Warshawsky; Jason and John McKay; Sarah and Ben Warshawsky; and six great-grandchildren, Natalya and Zach Hammond, Nadav Shkargi, and Brendan, Emerson, Kellen McKay, and Kaden McKay.

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rabbi Harry Rosenfeld.
