Albuquerque, NM - Leticia Modesta Sandoval, 66, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, surrounded by family, after a full life filled with love and family.
Born on August 31, 1959, in McAllen, TX, Lettie was the beloved child of the late Modesta Ibarra. She grew up in Hereford, TX, and later spent many years as a teaching assistant for Hawthorne Elementary School in Albuquerque, NM. Known for her green thumb, delicious cooking, and hosting her family and friends. Lettie had a way of bringing everyone together, ensuring that no one ever left her home with an empty stomach.
Lettie's greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Jose Sandoval; her loving daughter, Frances Johnson-Sandoval, and her wife, Sarah Johnson-Sandoval; and her cherished son, Joe Paul Sandoval. Lettie was also the adoring grandparent of Logan Johnson-Sandoval, who brought a special light to her life.
In addition to her immediate family, Lettie leaves behind a large, close-knit circle of surviving relatives, including her sisters, Hilda, Lillie, and Myrna, as well as many deeply loved nieces, nephews, godchildren, a large extended family, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Gracie, Gloria, and Stella.
A viewing and rosary will be held on Tuesday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m. at French's on Golf Course Rd in Albuquerque, NM. A celebration of Lettie's life will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 9 a.m. with a mass at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
