Leroy D. Perea

Leroy was born on May 26, 1951. He died peacefully on November 20, 2024 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Leroy spent his entire life in Albuquerque.

 Leroy is survived by wife Elaine of 42 years, daughter Krista, grandson Daniel, brother Ron, sister Annette, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his father Dan and mother Nellie Perea. Leroy was a man full of life who especially enjoyed making people laugh.

He retired from Sandia National Labs after 34 years of service. During retirement he enjoyed his family, traveling and continued his passion for photography. 

 Leroy was the founder of the ANMPAS, Shades of Gray, & InSight photography shows. He was involved with the Enchanted Lens Camera Club and its & Casual Critique program. He produced Portrait Lighting classes for fellow photographers. Leroy was the photography chair and organizer at the New Mexico State Fair. He was also involved with the PPANM {Professional Photographers of America New Mexico), & IPSW (Industrial Photographers of the Southwest. He coordinated the photography judging for the Central New Mexico STEM Research Challenge. He was the principal photographer for the annual SuperNationals & Route 66 Casino car shows.

 He inspired countless New Mexico photographers through his teaching, mentoring and expertise.

 He also did the photography work for the Super Nationals & Route 66 Casino car shows

 Leroy will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone whose lives were blessed by his presence and kindness.

Services will be held at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Thursday, Dec 5th. Rosary will begin at 9:30am followed by Mass at 10am.

Burial will take place after the mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Reception will follow after the burial at the Shrine of St Bernadette Catholic Church Hall, 11509 Indian School Rd NE Alb

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Alzheimer’s Association.
