Lena Carole Moore-Shores

On September 27, 2025, God welcomed Lena Carole Moore-Shores, known to all as “Lenny” or her family given name of “Carole,” with open arms into heaven. She was reunited with her beloved daughter Kelly, her parents, her siblings, and her husbands, William Moore (1942–1984) and Quincy Shores (1936–2009).

She is survived by her daughter Cathy and son-in-law Don; her grandchildren Stuart (wife Megan), Kurtis (wife Robin), and Matthew; and her great-grandchildren Robert Helvie and Aubree Helvie. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Carole was a gifted quilter who found joy in sharing her talents with others. She taught quilting in the evenings, created treasured quilts for those she loved, and inspired her community through more than five years of service. She served as president of the New Mexico Quilters Association.

She also dedicated over 20 years to Ducks Unlimited in New Mexico she was a “Life Sponsor” serving on the Albuquerque chapter’s committee coming to be fondly named by her fellow Duck’s Unlimited friends as DU-ma-duck and later as president for more than two years. Her leadership reflected her deep commitment to conservation and her passion for bringing people together in support of wetlands and wildlife.

Above all, Carole’s life was defined by family. She poured her heart into raising her daughters, opening her home to foster children, and later treasuring time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether fishing with Stuart, solving math problems with Kurtis, playing with safes with Matthew, or cooking up her comforting Southern meals for anyone who came through the door, Carole’s love and warmth touched all who knew her.

To younger generations, she was always “Nana”—a patient, loving presence who welcomed children into her home if they were respectful and kind. Her faith in the Lord guided her life and inspired all who knew her. She will be deeply missed until we meet again in heaven.

Services

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at French Funerals, (10500 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112). A Graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park (924 Menual Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107).
