Lela C. Montoya, 87, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend was called to her eternal resting place on March 11, 2021. She entered this world on June 7, 1933 in Hot springs, NM, born to father Alberto Chavez and mother Mariana Martinez.
As a young teenage girl, Lela rode horses and helped her father tend to their cattle and goats at their ranch in Southern New Mexico.
Lela was a dearly loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who was known for her generous heart, quiet gentle spirit, and devotion to her God, family and friends. Lela lived a quiet and simple life, married to her husband Adolfo for 54 years. Lela raised her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends. She sacrificed for her children and put their needs before her own. If she was taking care of a young child, that child would go to church with her.
Lela showed her love through home cooked meals and always had a warm meal available for anyone that visited. She was an incredible cook, with many special recipes she was always willing to share.
Lela had an incredible talent in crocheting blankets and made quilts for new born babies. Her love for arts and crafts kept her occupied when she wasn't cooking, and caring for her loved ones.
Lela was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish for over 65 years. She was also a member of the Annunciation Parish Ladies Guild and American Legion Post 99.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Montoya, sons Danois R. Montoya (Rebecca), Adolfo R. Montoya, (Annabelle) Eloy C. Montoya, (Diana). Lela is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchild, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Lela is preceded in death by her husband, Adolfo R. Montoya, grandson, Gabriel Montoya, and her parents and sisters.
The recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be followed by a Catholic mass to be held on Monday March 22, 2021 at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish located 2532 Vermont St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Interment will take place on March 24, 2021 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
