In Loving Memory of Lawrence Peter Tierney August 12, 1934 - July 12, 2025
With deep love and profound gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Lawrence Peter Tierney announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Larry's life was marked by faith, purpose, and an enduring devotion to family. He graduated from St. Anne's Academy, now Archbishop Molloy High School- and went on to attend Villanova University, where he played men's basketball and graduated in 1956. Shortly after, Larry joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving with the 4th Marine Regiment, First Marine Brigade, Fleet Marine Force Pacific. Even while stationed in Hawaii, Larry's passion for basketball followed him, playing for the Marines in tournaments across California.
In 1960, Larry began a distinguished 38-year career with General Motors, rising to lead national sales for the Oldsmobile division during its golden years. His work took him and his young family around the world, seizing new opportunities and building a life grounded in love, faith, and resilience.
But Larry's proudest achievement was his marriage to Gay Catherine Barron, the love of his life. They met, fell in love, and married just six months later, a joyful union that lasted 55 years until Gay's passing in 2016. Together, they raised four beloved children: Paris, Chris, Pele, and Winston. Larry was a father in love, a man with the biggest heart and always the kindest thought and a grandfather whose wit, wisdom, and warmth made him unforgettable. He delighted in being a tutor, mentor, neighbor, and friend, generously sharing his time and knowledge in subjects ranging from Spanish and reading to public speaking and the U.S. Constitution.
A devout Catholic, Larry was a faithful member of the Church of the Risen Savior. He was a man of deep intellect, sharp humor, and boundless generosity. He loved Reader's Digest, National Geographic, good books, great debates, and the occasional bad dad joke. Whether discussing politics, helping a child prepare for a speech, or simply offering a listening ear, Larry gave fully always with grace, humility, and a servant's heart.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy of integrity, faith, and unconditional love.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Larry's life will be held on Wednesday, August 7th at 1:00 PM at The Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
