Lawrence Shortman

Lawrence Shortman began his journey home on Friday, December 15, 2017. He was born in Watonga, OK on June 18, 1927. He was a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes of Oklahoma. He was a Headsman in the Cheyenne Bow String society. His Indian name was Brown Bear. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Bureau of Indian affairs after 40 years. He was also a member of the Albuquerque Indian Baptist mission.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel “Bubbles” Shortman; son, Gerald “Dutch” Shortman; and grandson, Marshall White. He is survived by daughter, Ida Raye White, son, Lawrence Shortman II, son, Joseph Shortman, all of Albuquerque, son, Terrance Shortman and wife, Lauren of Los Lunas, NM, daughter, Marlene Lawless and husband, Freddie of Attalla, AL; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris St. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
