In Loving Memory of
Lawrence Henry Johnson, Jr., age 73, passed away on August 11, 2026, he was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 24, 1953, to loving parents, Lawrence Henry Johnson, and Juanita Durden-Meade.
Lawrence was always intentional about teaching the difference between right and wrong. He laid strong foundations for our lives by exposing us to stories and experiences that helped us develop a moral framework. He understood that family, church communities, and close family friends all play an important role in shaping who we become. Our siblings and cousins were often our first friends, and through playing, sharing, and growing together, we learned lessons about kindness, respect, responsibility, and knowing right from wrong.
Lawrence believed deeply in treating everyone with respect and giving people equal opportunities. He saw the value in every person and taught us, through both his words and his example, to treat others with dignity, compassion, and fairness. These values became an important part of the foundation he gave his family and the people around him.
Lawrence had a special gift for building lifelong friendships. Getting to know people and connecting with them came naturally to him. He welcomed people into our home and loved to entertain, share stories, talk about values, have fun, dance, joke, and laugh. But what brought Lawrence the greatest fulfillment was seeing people come together in faith and friendship. He loved when our friends gathered in prayer, shared the blessings God had brought into their lives, and encouraged one another. To Lawrence, friendship was more than simply spending time together-it was about creating meaningful connections, sharing life, and celebrating God's blessings with others.
Through his family, his values, and his friendships, Lawrence left a lasting example of how to live with integrity, generosity, faith, and love. His greatest legacy is found in the people whose lives he helped shape and in the values that continue to live through them.
He was a NY Giant Fan, and his favorite color was Blue, our Cat's name was Blue. He loved his cat. He had a dog named Storm who passed away, we also have a dog named Malachi, a jack Russel terrier., He would choose plants over a particular flower, he also enjoyed gardening.
He enjoyed playing all kinds of family games/card games (internet) connecting with people. Fishing, camping, reading, cooking and carpentry.
Lawrence was a man of faith who wrestled honestly with what he believed. Sought understanding and ultimately made a personal decision to embrace Catholicism before his death. Importantly his words "Heaven is real" were his own testimony.
I think Lawrence's legacy can be expressed as the lasting impact he had on people through faith, family, values, and friendship. He taught not only through his words, but through the way he lived. I hope Lawrence's legacy will be one of faith, love, and the importance of living a life that makes a difference in the lives of others. I hope we remember him as someone who taught us the difference between right and wrong, gave us strong foundations, and encouraged us to treat everyone with respect, kindness, and fairness.
I hope his example inspires us to continue building meaningful relationships, welcoming people into our homes and our lives, and making time for laughter, stories, dancing, and celebration. Most importantly, I hope we carry forward his love of bringing people together in faith-to pray together, share our blessings, and encourage one another.
Lawrence's legacy is not simply what he accomplished, but what he planted in the hearts of the people he loved. I hope those seeds continue to grow through his family, friends, and future generations. May we live out the values he taught us, extend the same generosity and friendship he gave so freely, and continue sharing God's love and blessings with others.
In that way, Lawrence will continue to live on-not only in our memories, but in the way we love, serve, forgive, welcome, and care for one another.
An important event in Lawrence's Life:
Our son was a miracle, and becoming his father was one of Lawrence's greatest blessings. The love Lawrence gave him and the lessons he passed on will continue to live in our son and through the generations that follow.
If Lawrence had the chance to speak to everyone gathered here today, I believe he would first want to thank you for being here and for being part of his life. He would want you to know how much he valued each relationship and how grateful he was for the family and friendships he was blessed to have.
He would remind us to love our families, treat everyone with respect and kindness, and always try to do what is right. He would encourage us to forgive, to give others' opportunities, and to never take the people we love for granted.
He would probably tell us to keep laughing, sharing stories, enjoying one another, and opening our homes and hearts to others. He would want us to keep praying and being grateful and most of all love one another.
Most of all, I believe Lawrence would want us to have faith and to trust in God. He would remind us that life is a gift, that our time together is precious, and that the love we share with one another is what truly matters.
And I imagine he would end by saying, "Don't be sad for me. Celebrate the life we shared, take care of one another, and keep the love and faith alive. I'll see you again."
