Ladislado F. Armijo passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, August 6, 2020, just six days prior to his 91st birthday.
He was born on a small ranch in Quemado, NM. He was preceded in death by his father Antonino and mother Ester Armijo as well as seven of his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Micheline "Mimi" Armijo, children, Corinne Armijo, William(Joan) Armijo, Patrick(Tammy) Armijo, Beverly Schumann, seven grandchildren, Trish(Kory) Ingersoll, Stephanie(Jamie) Armijo-Anderson, Christina Armijo, Joseph Armijo, Skylar Armijo, Colton Armijo, Sydney Armijo and three great grandchildren (Adam, Khloe, Knox) whom he loved dearly, as well as his brother Gilbert and sisters, Nellie and Vestina.
Ladis grew up on the family ranch near Horse Springs, NM. He worked hard from a very young age on their ranch as well as neighboring ranches. He was often away from home tending cattle where he truly lived the life of a cowboy. When he wasn’t working the ranch, he would run the family store in Old Horse Springs. At age 19, he left Horse Springs and enlisted in the US Army where he served 20 years. He fought bravely in the Korean War where he was awarded numerous medals, awards and recognitions. Most notably among those are the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart. He notoriously told everyone that he was “shot in the butt during a battle in Korea” when in fact shrapnel entered his torso from the side missing all internal organs and exiting the other side of his torso. He was never one to miss an opportunity to pull someone's leg. After retiring from the Army Ladis, Mimi and the kids settled down in the South Valley in Albuquerque, NM. He then went to work for UNM at the General Store for 20 years before retiring to Belen, NM. There, he returned to his roots and had a small farm that he tended for many years before moving back to Albuquerque.
Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ladis’ name can be made to the VFW, Wounded Warriors or any charity of your choice.
