Kurt Robert Sams, 79, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on July 30, 2026. He was born on December 9, 1946, in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.

Kurt spent much of his childhood in Santa Monica, California, where his parents, Edna and Curtis Sams, owned and operated Cora's Coffee Shoppe. After serving in the United States military during the Vietnam War, he earned a bachelor's degree in business from Pepperdine University.

Kurt married Louise Mary Sams, and together they built their life in Albuquerque. They welcomed their only child, Ryan Christopher Sams, on April 28, 1986. Ryan was the center of Kurt's life, and they remained close throughout the years, spending time together watching television or working in the backyard.

Kurt worked in financial administration throughout his career, serving as Chief Financial Officer at Carrie Tingley Hospital before joining Albuquerque Public Schools, where he remained until his retirement.

He looked forward to annual trips to California to visit family, especially his sister, Marlene Woodling, and her husband, Bill. Those visits often included time on Catalina Island. He also enjoyed meeting his cousin, Anthony Conforti, and longtime friend, Steve Armijo, for breakfast.

One of the greatest joys of Kurt's final year was seeing Ryan become a father and meeting his grandson, Lucas James Sams, who was born on March 16, 2026, to Ryan Christopher Sams and Barbie Sullivan.

Kurt was also devoted to his dog, Jenni, whose companionship brought him comfort and joy throughout his later years.

Kurt is survived by his son, Ryan Christopher Sams; Barbie Sullivan; his grandson, Lucas James Sams; his brother-in-law, Bill Woodling; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Mary Sams; his parents, Edna and Curtis Sams; and his sister, Marlene Woodling.

Services will be held at a later date.
