Kenneth L. Flandermeyer

On March 9, 2017, Dr. Kenneth L. Flandermeyer passed away peacefully at home. Ken was with his wife and son at time of his death. Dr. Flandermeyer had a distinguished career as a military and private practice physician. He was born in Concordia, MO in 1939 and graduated from Concordia High School in 1957.
Ken was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia for both undergraduate and medical school and played saxophone in the marching band, Marching Mizzou. Dr. Flandermeyer joined the Army in 1966, embarking on an eight year career of active duty, including his service as chief of dermatology at Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army as a Major, he started a private dermatology practice in Albuquerque, NM. In 1979 Ken authored the popular acne treatment book Clear Skin, which sold over 100,000 copies and was featured nationally on the Today show. Dr. Flandermeyer and his wife, Sandy, ran his private practice in Albuquerque until his full-time retirement in 2007, serving in that time as a mentor and beloved boss to the employees he considered so important in his life.
Dr. Flandermeyer lived life with exceptional enthusiasm and passion. He traveled the world with his wife and son, Travis, with a strong desire to understand the traditions and cultures of the countries he visited. He loved to play video poker, which in retirement became known as his "office." He never missed a Lobos men's basketball game and enjoyed playing pool and fishing with family and friends, catching many, many HUGE fish, really! He was thrilled that he was able to pass on the love of fishing and chocolate to his grandson Kai after having done the same for his son. Most recently, his loves have been his grandsons, Kai (5 years old) and Cru (11 months). Whether it was "counting their ribs" or funny expressions, it made him so happy that he was always able to get both to smile and laugh.
Ken will be remembered for the way he lived his life, full of energy and zest. To his friends, he may be best remembered for a distinctive laugh that came easily to him and was the hallmark of his enjoyment for life and charismatic personality.
Ken was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who is survived by his wife, of 41 years Sandy; their son, Travis, daughter-in-law, Holly; grandsons, Kai, and Cru; and cousin, Alleen Fuchs, whom he considered a sister. He will also be missed by his many friends and the patients he so diligently served over his career.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming.
