Kathleen Downey Ingley passed away on January 12, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Ingley; stepmother of Michele and Kevin (wife Myra) Ingley; and grandmother of Deena and Brian. Kathi is survived by her sister, Susan P. Downey (spouse Dr. Loretta Butehorn, PhD); her brothers, Edward J. Downey III (wife Pamela) and John B. Downey (wife Kathleen); her nieces, Erin (Downey) Moran (husband John) and Michaela Downey, and her great-nephew, Jacob Moran, all of Massachusetts. She is predeceased by her parents, Edward J. Downey, Jr. and Helen P. (Hourihan) Downey, and her sister, Rosemary J. Downey.
Kathi was born in Quincy, Massachusetts. She held a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Emmanuel College in Boston, a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College (now the Joint Military Intelligence College) in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. She worked for the National Security Agency, Department of Defense, for more than 32 years, which included overseas tours in England, Switzerland, and Germany. She and her late husband lived in the Annapolis, MD, area before retiring in 2005 and relocating to New Mexico.
Kathi and Paul traveled extensively on their motorcycle, both in the United States and in Europe. After Paul's passing, she later continued her travels with friends. Kathi enjoyed learning about different cultures, history, cuisines and landscapes through her travels. She was active in her community, serving a lengthy period on the Board of Directors of her Homeowners' Association, and volunteering time to the Taylor Ranch Neighborhood Association in Albuquerque. She was also active in the Albuquerque Civilian Police Academy Alumni Association and several continuing education programs.
