Our beloved Kathy completed her heavenly journey home on Saturday, July 18, 2026 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 84. Katherine Isabelle Gallegos Garcia was born on July 7, 1942 in Jerome Arizona to her parents, Trinidad and Melinda Gallegos (Gonzales).
Kathy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Espat, son, Kenneth Gonzales and wife, Alyssa, son, Eric Gonzales, and grandchildren Robert and Rebecca Espat, Ray and Madison Gonzales, Mikayla Gonzales and Aloura Montano. Kathy is also survived by her brother, Orlando Gallegos and wife, Sophie, nieces, Laura Gallegos and Audrey Henderson. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joe Garcia.
Kathy's life spanned four states. Although born in Arizona, Kathy grew up in California. She graduated from San Pedro High School in San Pedro, California, then moved to New Mexico. She briefly lived in Houston, Texas, then later moved back to New Mexico where she lived in both Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Kathy worked and retired from the New Mexico Department of Labor. She was adventurous and fulfilled her dream of traveling by exploring amazing places with family and friends. She cherished the time she spent with all her family, cousins and friends.
Kathy will always be remembered for her generous heart and lives she touched. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Presbyterian Rust Cancer Center that provided incredibly kind and caring support. Our sincere thanks and prayers go out to all family and friends that loved and cared for Kathy throughout her life. May the memories you have of her bring you comfort, joy, and peace.
A funeral service will be held on August 17, 2026 at 9:00AM at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87105. A reception will be held immediately after the funeral at the same location. An interment service will be held at a later date. Kathy will be laid to rest with her late husband Joe at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mancos, CO.
