Karen Elaine DeMart

Karen Elaine DeMart, 81, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Placitas, New Mexico. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Frank S. and Mary M. Furjanic, she lived a life rich in creativity and kindness.

Karen met her husband, Donald E. DeMart, while working for an engineering firm. The two were married in 1966 and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to begin a journey together. A talented artist and gardener who nurtured rosebushes, she worked in medical transcription, floral design, and graphic design.

After retiring with Don to New Mexico, she embraced the Southwest's beauty while pursuing her interests in art, cooking, and photography. Karen loved traveling with Don across the country, shopping with her daughter, decorating her home for holidays, spending time with her cats, watching detective series, and participating in the NM chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Sara Lynn Forhan, son-in-law Eric, and many cousins. She was preceded by her husband. A private memorial service will be held later.
