Juliet (Julie) Mary Stone, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, December 10, 2020. She entered this world on Saturday, January 3, 1931, born in the Bronx, NY to Edward Fiorilli and Jennie Rano Fiorilli, who had immigrated to America from Italy. Julie was the youngest of three children, a little sister to two older brothers.
During her childhood, Julie did not live long with her family of origin. As a child, she was sadly passed around between family members, then lived a number of years in an orphanage, and finally at age 16 ended up living with her oldest brother and his family in Radnor, PA, until she was 21. While living with her oldest brother, Julie lived her best life in many years.
At the age of 21, on February 27th, 1951 – Julie enlisted in the United States Navy as a WAVE. While stationed in the Navy she met and married Leland Stone on February 20th, 1954 in Norfolk, VA. Julie was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Yeoman 3rd Class on March 11th, 1954. Julie and Leland lived in Peoria, IL for 1 year. In 1955 they moved to Chicago, IL for 2 years so Leland could attend school for his Electronics Degree. Upon graduation in June 1957, Leland was hired by Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Julie and Leland moved to Albuquerque in July 1957. She immediately fell in love with Albuquerque, and it became her “forever” home here on earth.
Julie and Leland adopted the first of two children three years after their move to Albuquerque. They welcomed a daughter, Desiree – in December 1960 and approximately two years later a son, Kevin - in April 1963. Julie and Leland divorced in August 1967.
Julie began a career with the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department as the Department Secretary in 1967. While employed with the City of Albuquerque, Julie pursued her educational goals and received both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration. When the time for retirement came in December 1993, Julie had been promoted to a Park Planner for the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department.
Upon retirement, Julie spent much of her time enjoying and cultivating friendships, volunteering at her church, holding pot-luck dinners for the bible studies she held in her home, traveling to Israel, and decorating her home in Victorian Era décor.
Julie truly lived life fully and completely - up until the day she was awarded her angel wings and went to be with her Lord in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Stone, who passed in October of 2018. Left to survive with many wonderful memories to pass down; is her daughter, Desiree Stone; daughter-in-law, Diana Stone; grandchildren, Joshua (and wife Kaila), Aimee and Christine; great-grandchildren, Quenton and Wesley; and a niece, Joanne Rubens in Wynnewood, PA.
Julie chose to be cremated, and because she is a Veteran, she will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico on January 4th, 2021 at 11:15 a.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 5 people may attend her interment at the National Cemetery. A “Celebration of Julie’s Life” is planned to take place at her home church, Believers Center of Albuquerque in the early months of 2021, when hopefully, COVID-19 restrictions are lessoned.
She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She is now with her Jesus, where she longed to be with all her heart, when no longer on this earth. She fought the good fight and looked forward to hearing the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”. A “good and faithful servant”, she certainly was…
