After a brief illness, Julian Bartlett passed away on March 30, 2026. Loved ones were with him at his passing. He lived a long and full life defined by quiet strength, kindness, generosity, and devotion to his family.
Julian was born on November 5, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia to Katie Woodward and Julian Graham Bartlett and he spent his early childhood in Stockbridge, Georgia. He graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta in 1956. He married Margaret Gilbert on September 9, 1961. Shortly afterward, Julian was recruited by Sandia National Laboratories, at which time he and Margaret moved to Albuquerque. Julian had a long career at Sandia and retired after 41 years.
Julian was a hard worker and a skilled handyman who enjoyed building and fixing things. He loved trains, Westerns, camping, fishing and collecting antiques with Margaret. He had a special fondness for collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. Julian and Margaret were actively involved in the United Methodist Church for many decades. They were founding members of St. Stephen's UMC and spent many summers at Sacramento United Methodist Assembly with their children. Julian was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Albuquerque Dukes and the Albuquerque Isotopes.
He is survived by Margaret, his beloved wife of 64 years, his daughters Julie La Scala (Peter), Tracie Bartlett (Ellen Grigsby), grandchildren Corey Bareford and Jillian Henderson (Nathan), great-granddaughter Emersyn Henderson, brother Claude Dale Bartlett as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons Todd Bartlett (Stephanie Rubio), Gilbert Bartlett, and his sister Ann Aycock.
Julian will be remembered as a wonderful role model of love, patience, and kindness. His steady presence and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
