Judith Anne Griego

May 12, 1934 — April 24, 2025

Rio Rancho

Judy Griego, 90, was called to her eternal resting place on April 24, 2025. She entered this world on May 12, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, born to William and Frieda Haley and was preceded in death by her brother Bill and his wife Libby.

Judy graduated from Croton-Harmon High School in 1952, she then graduated from Briarcliff Jr. College in 1954. In 1956, Judy completed her bachelor's degree at the University of New Mexico. Judy worked at Mountain Bell for many years before retiring. Beginning in 1978, she worked as a commercial artist for the Yellow Pages. Judy also worked as a Manager in Human Resources and as the Assistant Director at the UNM Centennial Center.

For many years, Judy was a volunteer for UNM Alumni Association, OFC of School Relations and the UNM Presidential Scholarship Program. Judy also volunteered for the Lavender in the Village Festival extensively. Volunteering was her true passion.

A sports enthusiast, she played soccer, lacrosse and enjoyed swimming. She was very athletic and loved The Lobos. She was also very interested in politics, both following them and participating in political activities. Judy loved her animals and had many cats and dogs over the years, each one loved by her and the family. She was an accomplished artist and specialized in her floral paintings as well as her commercial graphic designs. Her garden was a place of mediation for her, among her flowers, vegetables and herbs and she loved traveling.

The most important thing in the world for Judy, was her family, her friends and every human she ever encountered. She would talk to anyone even if she had never met them. Her ear was always available for those that needed to have a talk. Judy was a beautiful giving and loving woman, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her sense of humor will be truly missed by all those around her.

She is survived by her daughters, Andrea Griego (fur babies Bear, Bug, Feliz) and Cindy (Tony) Russell; granddaughters, Angela and Antoinette (Calvin) Spellmon; great grandchildren, Calah, Eliana, Maia, Caleb, and Cal-El; sister-in-law Judy Griego; as well as many family members, friends, and colleagues. A Celebration of Life will be held 2-5 pm Saturday, May 10, 2025, at The Alfredo Garcia Community Barn at 6178 Rio Grande Boulevard NW, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, NM 87107.
