Judith Amanda Churchill

May 17, 1938 — October 21, 2020

Judith Amanda Churchill, of Albuquerque, NM, was born in Thomasville, GA, May 17, 1938. She came into this world with nothing but the love of her parents, Margaret, and Wendell Mims, and left with her eternal soul. She is with Jesus in paradise today. She met Him in person Wednesday, October 21, 2020. “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” – Luke 23:43.

Her schooling started in Georgia, followed by Florida, Mississippi, California, Japan, and New Mexico. She graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque in 1956, then went to University of New Mexico for a year. She graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies from the Grand Canyon University later in her life. She studied various versions of Bibles, creating her own historical timeline associated with other world events.

Judy always had an extremely outgoing personality and made friends easily. She was always generous with whatever money she made, buying gifts for her siblings and parents, and bribing her younger siblings to do her chores for her. Money meant little to her except to make other people happy; she rarely spent her money on herself.

She got her first job at age 15 as a clerk at a dime store in Mississippi. After her year in college she worked as a telephone operator, and later draftsman, for Mountain Bell in Albuquerque. She took time out from work to raise her children, then resumed her career with Texas Instruments and Los Alamos National Labs.

While she struggled with personal issues throughout her life, she never lost her love for God’s creation of fellow humanity. Besides the family members she led to our Savior, Jesus Christ, she also witnessed to prisoners as well as art students as an art instructor at Thousand Pines Christian Camp. Though she lived of meager means, her benevolence extended to strangers such as sponsoring children through World Vision.

The oldest of eight, she was preceded by Sarah Patricia Mims Roker and Vernon Daniel Mims, and survived by Joyce Anita Mims Clements, Windell Rockwell (Rock) Mimms, Jr., Herbert Edwin Mims, Janis Adele Mims Sauve, and Pamela Kaye Mims Foster; four children, Garold, Bryce, Robert, and Vanessa; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

The celebration of Judith’s life will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020, 10:00 a.m., at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd, Albuquerque.
