Judith Lynne Chant, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024. Known to her family and friends as Judy, JC, The Judy, and Firecracker, she was born on September 24th, 1939, in the far away hamlet of Grove City, PA. Her parents, Earl and Mary Williams, moved Judy and her brothers and sisters to Albuquerque when she was four. She graduated from Highland High School, attended and graduated from UNM with a degree in education, married George Chant and taught first grade until the birth of her first child.
Judy loved being around people, especially her family and friends. It was not unusual to see her leaving a restaurant or an event at ABQ Country Club, stopping at several tables along the way, saying hi to friends, rubbing shoulders, patting backs and immensely enjoying those brief moments of personal interaction.
She loved Junior League, the New Mexico Philharmonic, Chi Omega Sorority, tennis, skiing, hosting parties at her house, boxed wine, and lip-melting hot coffee.
In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, eating lunch at Steel Bender Brewyard, and dipping her index finger in her coffee as a subtle way of letting the servers know it had gone cold.
Judy is survived by her former husband George; her sons Greg (Katie), Bryce (Timm), Chris (Leslie), Ethan (Shelby); her grandchildren Dylan, Jackson, Conner, Travis and Kaylie.
A Celebration of Life honoring Judy will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Country Club. Family, friends and community members, please join us to reminisce, share stories, and celebrate her life. Memorial donations can be made to the Junior League of Albuquerque, The New Mexico Philharmonic or the Chi Omega Sorority.
