Juan Baca

Juan Jose Baca, Esq. (Joe), beloved Son, Brother, and Uncle, was called to his eternal resting place on November 23, 2025. He was born on November 22, 1942 in Carrizozo, NM, to Juan and Angelita (Telles) Baca.

Joe lost his father at just twelve years old, and helped his mother take care of his younger siblings until joining the US Air Force. After serving an honorable tour, Joe returned to his family and together they moved to Albuquerque in the late 1960s, where he earned his BA and JD at UNM. His esteemed legal practice ranged from work with children, to work within the criminal courts and later mental health courts. In addition to Albuquerque, he also worked in Socorro, Rio Rancho, and Valencia County.

Joe will always be remembered for his witty charm, deep baritone, and natural gift for storytelling as well as being tall, dark, and handsome, with a penchant for race cars, rock and roll, and country music. Backpacking throughout Europe in his twenties ignited his love of travel and adventure. As a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed running, skiing, camping, fishing, and hiking. He was also a creative artist who painted murals, and liked to read, draw, and garden.

A man of rare character, Joe was truly defined by his deep humility and unwavering integrity. He moved through the world with a captivating warmth and a selfless heart, often placing the needs of others before his own. Joe's life was an expression of love and incredible generosity, and he leaves behind a legacy of joy and warmth that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Angelita; siblings, Josephine Mirabal, Antonia Leeper, Juan Bautista Baca, Rose Rainey, Beatrice Walton, Mona Masse, and Regina Baca. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Setasha Bybee and Olivia Baca, to whom he was like a father; and brothers, Arturo Baca and Juan Ramon Baca.

Services will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026, with a rosary at 9am and mass at 9:30am, Immaculate Conception Church, followed by a burial at Sunset Memorial.
