Joyce Johnson-Terrasas, 93, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with dementia.
Joyce was born on April 26, 1930 to Eunice and Nathan Johnson in Seagraves, Texas. She came to New Mexico to teach in Santa Fe after graduating from the University of Texas in Austin with a BS degree and teaching certificate. There she met Terry (Noe) Terrasas, whom she married after dating only 2 months. They had five children together and were married 26 years, until his death in 1982. She was a beloved mother to Tera Hutchinson and husband Rick, Tamara (Tammy) Terrasas-Mahboub and husband Gary, Greg Terrasas, Gary Terrasas, and Greta Terrasas and husband Chris Dennon. She was a loving Grandmother to Michael, Marcus, and Matthew Mahboub, Amber Terrasas, Monique Terrasas-Edrington, Taylor and Nathan Terrasas, Henry Sebesta, and Tyler Terrasas, and great grandma to Ava and Sienna Edrington.
After her last child was born, she started working for the State of New Mexico as a Parole/Probation officer around 1966 and later became a Hearing Officer for the State. She was the first woman to hold these positions. She retired in 1995, at age 65.
During her retirement years she enjoyed reading, her home, children, grandchildren, dancing, traveling and dining out with friends and family. She enjoyed just about everything she did and it didn't take much to get a smile from her and a laugh with her.
We will miss those wonderful times.
