Josephine Arvizu

October 15, 1953 — September 3, 2024

Josephine Annabelle Arvizu (Josie), age 70, was called home to meet her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Josie was born in Alamosa, CO on Thursday, October 15, 1953, and was raised and lived most of her life in New Mexico. Josie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie. She was blessed to have a very close and strong relationship with her six siblings and considered each of them her best friends throughout her life. She was devoted to her faith, studying the bible each day with her morning coffee.

Josie enjoyed baking and working on puzzles with her grandchildren. She enjoyed visitors in her home, especially visits from out-of-town family and friends. She loved preparing a cup of her favorite, caramel flavored, coffee with caramel creamer for every guest. Josie enjoyed hosting holiday celebrations at her home, looked forward to lunch dates with her sisters, and loved watching soap operas with her granddaughter. She was a model of physical, mental, and emotional strength. Her smile was contagious, and she was always ready to offer a listening ear.

Throughout her life, Josie was known for her work ethic and attention to detail. She began her employment at a young age as a cashier at El Modelo. Her commitment to her work and her passion for learning led her to enroll in higher-education classes, eventually working for the Federal government and retiring after 33-years of service. She had a deep love for math, a passion so profound that after her retirement she continued to apply her skills by volunteering to manage the books for her family's business.

If you were to ask Josie about her most cherished role, she would say it was being a grandmother. For Josie, the joy of spending time with her grandchildren and watching them experience life was a blessing and the most fulfilling and rewarding job. She also loved being a mother, auntie, and dog-mom. Her love language was spoiling those she loved by filling their bellies with a warm meal, listening to stories of their adventures, and always sincerely empathetic when one would hit a rough patch.

Josie is survived by her children, Ernest Arvizu Jr. and wife, Jana Thompson, Glenn Arvizo and wife, Devona, Eleanor Williams and husband, Deric, Nathaniel Arvizu, and wife, Jessica, and Kristal Vargas and husband, Edward; siblings, Jose Rendon and wife Marie, Rudy Rendon, Diana Rendon, Sandra Powell and husband Larry, Yolanda Chavez and husband Manuel, and Orlando Rendon; grandchildren, Kristina and Alex, Anthony and Jasmin, Ernest, Elliot, Nathaniel Jr., Angelique, Devin, Ashlyn, Ryan, and Rayden; great-grandchildren, Noah, Nayeli, and Evalee; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Josie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38-years, Ernest Arvizu, Sr., her parents Jose Sigferdo Rendon, Sr. and Angelita Rendon, and granddaughter, Natasha Arvizu.

In honor of Josie's vibrant spirit, the family encourages you to wear a touch of color to her memorial services. If you feel comfortable doing so, incorporating a meaningful color into your ensemble will honor her lively personality and reflect the happiness she brought into our lives.
