Joseph (Joe) Marchese, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
He is survived by son, Luciano (Lue) Marchese and wife, Doris of Albuquerque; daughters, Giovanna Marchese and spouse Jen Marble of Oceanside, CA, Sally Anna Duckert and husband, Bill of Amarillo, TX; brother, Charles Marchese and sister Rosa Coraci; grandchildren, Tonya Kalantarian and significant other, Jeff Young, Joseph Lino Marchese, Christina Rael and husband Justin, Catarina Smith and husband Tavin, and Billy Duckert Jr.; great grandchildren Vita and Gianna Young; Logan and Arial Rael; many other nieces and nephews and his significant other Jeanne Gironda.
Joe was born in Sciacca, Sicily and came to the United States at age 19. He lived in New York until 1972 when he moved to Albuquerque. Joe married Vita Angela Burgarello in 1954. He and Vita were in the restaurant business in Albuquerque until 1990. Joe and Vita were members of The Order of the Sons of Italy (Ben Abruzzo Lodge), Italian American Club and Italian Cultural Club where they both were co-presidents for a number of years. They enjoyed league bowling at Silva Lanes. They were very happily married for almost 49 years.
He was an extraordinary and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. Joe was a member of the Widow’s club in Albuquerque where he met his significant other, Jeanne Gironda.
Joe was greatly involved in the Italian game of Bocci where he, along with David Florez were responsible for getting the Bocci courts at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center built. The Bocci courts were eventually dedicated in a surprise ceremony to Joe in 2021.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Viewing will begin on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. at French’s Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with the rosary starting immediately after at 6:00 p.m. recited by Deacon Manuel. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont St. N.E. Albuquerque, NM 87112. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
