Tribute to José Felix Garcia
Born in Argentina, he came to New York to pursue a career in medicine. After working as a radiologist in Pittsburgh in the 70s Felix moved the family to New Mexico, where he spent more than 30 years as a radiologist at UNM Hospital. As a physician he was admired, skilled, kind and humble.
Outside of medicine, he was a man of many interests and talents. He was an accomplished sketch artist, he wrote poetry, but his main creative passion was woodworking and furniture building. Our homes are filled with things he made, tables, chairs, and little creations he carved by hand.
He was married to his wife, Dorothy, for over 60 years, their relationship is a model of kindness and selflessness. As a father, he was present, supportive, and quietly proud.
What Felix leaves behind isn't just a long life, but a meaningful one. A life built on craftsmanship, compassion, and devotion to his family. His presence will continue in the things he made, and the people who were shaped by his example.
The following poem reflects his life and faith.
Evolution of Creation
by Felix Garcia
In His infinite wisdom
God conceived me.
From stars dust
He created my body,
encoding eons of evolution,
from primal matter
to brains and thoughts.
He crowned his creation
Bestowing it a soul,
Blowing into it
A sparkle of
His divine fire.
And here I am
A humble expression
Of his divine creation:
Body, soul and Love
For my Divine Creator.
