John Everette Wilson was the son of Verity and John Gibson Wilson, born on March 18, 1946, in Oakland, CA. He passed July 18, 2024, at his home after a short and very aggressive cancer. His wife, Ellen Silva Wilson; goddaughter, Jennifer Anne Walton; and grandniece, JoAnne Martinez-Silva were at his side.
His wife would say there was nobody better for her to spend 46 years of her life with. He was kind, loving, supporting, encouraging and oh so proud of her. He would tell her she looked like Sophia Loren, and she would tell him he looked like George Clooney. They loved each other.
He graduated from SMU with a degree in psychology, working to obtain gainful, long-term employment for young people (18-25) with cognitive disabilities, such as Autism and Down Syndrome. He loved this work, and his "students" loved him. Before and after his degree, graduating at the young age of 45, he used his knowledge to never judge but offer stern advice on making good life decisions and was always a vocal cheerleader as you worked toward achieving a good life, what a "good life" was for you.
John loved all genre of music, especially when played loudly. Tina Turner was a favorite and the Gypsy Kings, and he knew words to songs from the Doo Wop era to the newest songs today - probably not Rap or Taylor Swift. Movies were a major part of his life: Sci-Fi, Shoot-em-ups, foreign movies with sub-titles. Everything. He especially liked Godzilla movies, Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood movies, Dune, Lord of the Rings, Casa Blanca, etc.
John's favorite animals were dogs and dragons. Over the door to his computer room there was a sign that read "Beyond this place there be dragons." There were many dragons in his home. Hobbies that he shared with nieces/nephews: Constellations, stars, planets, and telescopes. He loved fossil hunting, the latest electronic games, the best and newest tech toys and finally model trains.
He was a favorite uncle. Because his character never limited one's imagination or artistic desires. He cared for imaginary little red ponies and allowed instantaneous portal transportation. He would play Barbies with you as well as roll trucks/cars around the living room carpet, and he had the BEST Donald Duck impersonation. He told you he was proud of you, he loved you, and gave the best hugs. He shared the best nutrition information like "you can never have too much butter on anything," "the more cheese the better," and "the more salt the tastier."
So, this is our goodbye hug to you, Uncle John. Brother, brother-in-law, friend, and wonderful husband.
.........and oh yes, Go 49ers!
